about.

Our aim is to protect children from the dangers of smartphones.

The first children who were given smartphones in primary school are now adults. We now know for every year younger they were given smartphones by their parents, the worse their mental health is today.

And their mental health is just the start of the serious harm that is caused to children by smartphones. Most parents are unaware of the latest research and alternatives available.

Enfance Sans Smartphone began as a grassroots initiative by parents in Monaco in 2024, inspired by the work done by the Delay Smartphones campaign in Edinburgh in 2023. We support schools and parents in Monaco and its environs, and welcome pledges from any parent ready to make this commitment with us!

still unsure?

"we know, but everyone else is getting them, we have no choice."

The message we send to our children when we do this is "as soon as you feel peer pressure, even if you know it is the wrong thing to do, give in".

"but they need independence, this is part of growing up."

Yes, however this independence can be gained with an alternative like a watch or a basic phone.

"but they will miss out on WhatsApp groups with their friends."

The research shows that WhatsApp groups do more harm than good, but if you really want your child to be in a WhatsApp group then there are options for accessing these on a computer at home.

"but we promised them..."

Sometimes as parents it's okay to change your mind, especially if you have new information about something being harmful to your child. We recommend that you talk this through with your child and after offering them an alternative to the smartphone incentivising them with something you see fit, e.g., the money for the smartphone being invested in their savings account.

We cannot do this alone, but with your help we can choose to protect our children from the unnecessary harm caused by smartphones.
